Cars, Explosions, and a healthy appreciation for the female form. Three things that resonate with any male and things that “Fast & Furious 6” has in spades. While this movie won’t win any best picture awards it doesn’t pretend to be something that it’s not.   What “Fast & Furious 6” brings is just plain fun. Filled with action, chase scenes and one liners “Furious 6” follows its predecessors in just being entertainment for entertainment’s sake.

a2Moviegoers who have not seen the previous 5 iterations of the Fast and the Furious franchise will not be left completely in the dark as the 6th film opens with a short montage that recaps the most significant points of each movie. The movie starts in earnest with our victorious heroes enjoying the spoils of their previous heists looking towards a future in the slow lane. Dominic Torreto (Vin Diesel) and Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) are first reintroduced racing through the treacherous mountain roads of Spain in what appears to be a game of one-upsmanship. The two eventually finish at a church where they greet the newest member of their family, baby Jack. This scene emphasizes a key theme that runs throughout the entire movie, Family. In fact this is brought up so often I almost thought I was watching a Disney movie.

When the franchise first debuted almost 12 years ago not many would have believed the franchise could last six movies. Even more unbelievable would be the fact that after the introduction of the ever intimidating Luke Hobbs (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) as the series got BETTER. “Fast & Furious 6” offers a slight deviation from the other movies as Special Agent Hobbs enlists Dominic and his crew not for a bit of thievery but in order to stop an apparent plot to plunge nations into chaos. Dominic, looking towards a life of retirement where his only worry would be little Jack’s dirty diapers, was hesitant to join Hobbs on his crusade to thwart mass destruction. Hobbs is able to play the one trump card that will plunge Dom and his crew of misfits into extraordinary situations, information on the supposedly deceased Letty.

“Fast & Furious 6” revolves mostly around the Crew’s efforts to return a member of their wayward flock, Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez). I say mostly because the plot gets a little lost between the intense car chases, almost unbelievable stunts (there was one moment where I thought to myself Yeah….. That just happened), and cheesy dialogue. Overall this go around is exactly what fans of the franchise have come to expect. Fast & Furious 6 will make you laugh with cheesy dialogue and make you heart beat quick with tense action scenes. The latest edition of the franchise will satisfy fans and leave many to ponder the mysterious origins of another briefly shown legend of the automotive/action genre; Jason Statham…
